[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]I admit I am no Adele Fan. (Please don’t hold this against me), but there is something about this song ‘Someone Like You’ that I really like.
Rarely do you get anymore songs that are Pop that have a story to tell instead, you get Pop that has the words ‘dance’, ‘dancefloor’, ‘club’, ‘party on’, ‘hangover’. (One should definitely make a different genre for those songs).
Adele’s Someone Like You is no doubt a chart-topping hit due to its mellow and sad melody which she shares her deep feelings for a man that she should have had a life with.
Someone Like You is one of the more mellow sides of Adele. I recommend this song for someone who isn’t really keen on other Adele songs.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]Yes, I have succumbed to reviewing a Britney Spears song…
However, despite it being sung by a mediocre popstar who’s claim to fame was because of a catchy song written by Max Martin, This song, Criminal is actually very different to her past songs.
Unusual for Britney to be incorporating a folk-like tune with hints of Asian tunes with the flute, the song starts out very mellow and then builds up aggressively into a rompy and very mysterious melody.
I can hear influences from Madonna yet again…however, during the guitar rift and the way Britney Spears is singing, it almost sounds as if it has been influenced by a very mellow Abba Song…
For me, I think Britney Spears has done a splendid and modest job with this song. Very unusual, yet easy on the ears…probably controversial and rebellious but it’s fine.

This Week’s Artist is the Punk Princess, Musician, Fashion Designer and Philanthropist Avril Lavigne. Winner of multi-platinum albums, Let Go and Under My Skin, Avril Lavigne is one of this Century’s most talented singer/songwriter and youngest Female Soloist to reach no. 1 (In the UK only).
Having been introduced to Avril Lavigne with her Under My Skin album, my initial reaction and opinion was: okay she’s great! she’s unique, she knows her stuff and she can write lyrics! However, progressing to The Best Damn Thing, I personally thought she was trying too hard with the tracks (on the contrary my favourite song is on the album).
Having recently release Goodbye Lullaby I thought it was much more mellow, slightly disappointing, but still good music don’t get me wrong.
Let’s admit it. It’s hard for people to really carry the Pop/Punk Genre. Only a handful of people can do it and Avril Lavigne are one of those people. Avril Lavigne is a very good artist and hope she can be more adventurous with her music direction in the future
Favourite Song: Innocence from (The Best Damn Thing 2007)
Favourite Album: Under My Skin (2004)
Stand Out Song: Remember When (Goodbye Lullaby 2011)

This Week’s Artist is none other than the fruity and gorgeous singer/songwriter, Katy Perry. With her hit ‘I Kissed A Girl’ reaching top of the charts all over the world, this artist has managed to snag multi-platinum albums including her Sophomore album, “Teenage Dream”.
My first thought on Katy Perry was: CONTROVERSIAL R’ US!
I sort of dismissed her attempts to snag a hit when her debut single was ‘I Kissed A Girl’ came out. It was controversial, the song was crticially panned and attention-seeking. As I listened to her first album, maybe I saw a bit of hope, but all the tracks just sounded the same.
Katy Perry got into my good books when her second album ‘Teenage Dream’ came out. In my opinion, there was more work put into this album than her first and the creative direction was much more planned out, which I really liked.
Even Though she is classified as ‘Generic Pop’ by some people, I think Katy Perry has a lot of potential and I admire the creativity behind her music videos. However, we should keep Rebecca Black featuring in our Music Videos on a down low…
Stand out Song for Katy Perry: Thinking of You

Artist: Joshua Winslow Groban
Birthday: February 27, 1981
Years Active: 1997-Present
This Week’s Artist is non other than singer/songwriter Josh Groban. Having recieved multi-platinum certification in all four of his albums, 24 million albums sold, he is fast becoming one of the most world-renowned artists in the music industry.
I discovered Josh Groban via my sister and at first not open in listening to his music. It was when his album, Closer, came out and really made me listen to it. Josh Groban has incredible talent being able to crossover from Classical to Pop to World Music. Although not as popular as his fellow musician James Blunt and Justin Bieber, Josh Groban is a strong contender in terms of musicality and voice quality. Unlike most Pop Artists in our charts, Josh Groban has the ability to sing in other languages, which I know convinces some people that he spoke the language.
Favourite Song from Josh Groban’s Albums: So She Dances (Awake, 2006)
Favourite Song Language Other Than English: Per Te (Closer, 2003)
Favourite Album: Closer (2003)

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]Sorry’s Not Good Enough is no doubt one of my most favourite McFly songs.
Since being introduced to McFly in 2008 after accidentally stumbling across their Mr. Brightside cover (in a file sharing website…hhehe), I decided to do some more investigating on this particular band and the first song I heard was this one.
The taste in my music before I have encountered McFly was not mainstream in fact on the contrary, quite different. I loved Celtic Music and Alternative Rock. I did not listen to many songs on the radio nor did I listen to any Pop songs since I was mentally scarred by Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys. However, when I heard this song, it made me appreciate the genre of Pop. Though it may seem that Pop Music nowadays is comprised of synthesizers and auto-tune overload, Pop is a very misunderstood genre.
Pop consists of ‘what is current’ in our contemporary world so that meant 80’s Synthesizers and Flashy Clothes, 90’s meant Boy Bands and the 00’s meant Auto-Tune and the Return of much better developed Synthesizers.
What I found out about listening to Sorry’s Not Good Enough made me open my eyes to the different type of Pop Music there is and not just limited to Boy Bands, Girl Bands and Wanna-Be Popstars. Sorry’s Not Good Enough delivers approval to a broad demographic. It’s sunny 60’s style overall tune with a catchy rift and powerful vocals, ticks all the boxes while the voices of Tom and Danny reminds us that it is a 00’s song.
From a normal start to a very climactic end, Sorry’s Not Good Enough is an eye-opener of a song that discusses a boyfriend pleading her girlfriend not to break up with him. Unfortunately his plea with ‘sorry’s not good enough’ wasn’t enough to win her heart back.
Quite lyrically intense, it is a great song worth listening to.
